Five people were shot at a San Jose nightclub during an appearance by singer Chris Brown last night.

Shocking video footage shows fans screaming in terror as gunshots ring out and people run for the emergency exits.

Brown fled the stage and avoided injury. Five casualties have been confirmed so far, but more may be added to that list.

Local station Kron 4 reports:

San Jose police say the shooting happened just after 1:00 a.m. at the Fiesta nightclub on Monterey Highway just south of the Capitol Caltrain station.

When officers arrived they found four people suffering gunshot wounds. Those victims were taken to the hospital.

Investigators have detained a number of people for questioning about the circumstances of the shooting.

It has not yet been confirmed if anyone has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Chris Brown has been tied to a number of controversial incidents during his career. The event last night was reportedly part of birthday celebrations for his manager.

A Vine video was posted on a Brown account shortly after the incident showing the star’s reaction as the shots start to get fired.
