anderson silva rematch, shane del rosario dies, george st. pierre partying, antonia silva suspended, george st. pierre quits,

The most highly anticipated rematch in UFC history is almost here — so while Billy and Jane are waiting to open those stocking stuffers and presents under the tree — fight fans across the world will be looking forward to the rematch between Anderson Silva (33-5) and Chris Weidman (10-0) at UFC 168.

In July, we saw Silva knocked out while mocking Weidman during the fight, losing his middleweight belt, and losing for the first time in the UFC. But Silva says he is back, and that he will reclaim his belt.

The co-main event is another rematch, where Ronda Rousey (7-0) will defend her bantamweight belt against arch nemesis Miesha Tate (13-4). Rousey has won all seven of her professional fights by armbar and all coming in the first round. Hmmm, I wonder what Tate has been working on?

A week ago the MMA world was abuzz, when UFC Welterweight Champion George St. Pierre decided to vacate his title. Fast forward a few days, and TMZ spotted the former champ drinking and partying at a nightclub in Miami.

St. Pierre was taking time off to resolve some “personal issues” and growing “pressure” from each fight, so like Lebron James, took his talents to South Beach to get away from his problems.

Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, coming off the epic battle with Mark “Super Samoan” Hunt, has been suspended for nine months by the UFC for testing above the allowable limit of Testosterone Replacement Therapy.

Silva (18-5), will lose his $50,000 bonus for fight of the night (which many saw as one of the best fights in UFC history), and instead will be given to Hunt.

Not a bad Christmas bonus for Hunt, who, at 40, can’t afford to be in too many more battles like that one.

The Orange County (CA) coroner’s office has ruled that UFC heavyweight Shane Del Rosario (13-2) died of natural causes. Their report states that Del Rosario suffered from brain damage due to a lack of oxygen and an abnormal heart rhythm. The official cause of death was listed as anoxic encephalopathy, ventricular fibrillation and Long QT syndrome.

However, medical examiners did find cocaine, opiates and THC in Del Rosario’s body, but did not attribute any to his death.

Merry Christmas and I wish everyone a Happy Holidays with your loved ones!
