If you’ve been thinking that the one thing missing from your life is more televised, musicals, you’re in luck. Following in the footsteps of the strangely executed (and even more strangely cast) live NBC performance of The Sound of Music starring former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood as Maria, Fox has decided to air their own ode to musicals with a live production of ’70s classic Grease.

Variety reports that Fox will air a three-hour live performance of the show at an as-of-yet unspecified date in 2015 — mark your calendars, shut-ins! While the stage version of the show has been performed across the U.S. and in Europe, Asia, and Australia since it debuted to audiences in Chicago in 1971. This will mark the first revival of the stage classic to hit the big or small screen since the original film, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, was released in 1978. A universally panned remake of Grease, titled Grease 2, was released a few years after the original, but remains little more than a bad memory for musical purists.

If Fox’s project, currently being worked on under the terrifically imaginative title “Grease Live,” pulls in anything like the numbers earned by NBC’s Sound of Music, it will be a much-needed win for the network, whose hits Glee and will end their runs on the network after completing their final seasons this year and next. Shana Waterman, SVP of Event Series for Fox says of the project’s development, “From Broadway to film, and across generations, Grease is one of the most beloved musical stories ever told — and we can’t wait to bring it to our air in a spectacular live event. Its iconic characters and addictive songs make it the perfect fit for Fox, and we’re going to give it the kind of star power and production quality to make every Sandy, Danny, Rizzo and Kenickie out there want to get up and sing along.” It sounds like those Glee kids may not need to fill out that unemployment paperwork just yet.
