drew brees, saints, fantasy football

It all came down to this, for those of you still playing this was one way or another, the last week of the season. If you were lucky or smart enough to start one of these players then you went out with a bang, and quite possibly, a fantasy football championship. Scores listed reflect standard scoring.

QB: Drew Brees, 37pts

THANK YOU, DREW!!! So as someone who owned Brees in both a single game playoff and a two week playoff format, I went through the full gamut of emotions this past two weeks, after last week’s “meh” performance Brees absolutely ERUPTED, 381 yards, four passing touchdowns, and an ever valuable rushing touchdown brought me from behind in a two week championship contest. Hopefully you were as fortunate and the Patron Saint of Passing helped you to the title in your league as well.

RB: Matt Forte, 33pts

Somehow due to the exploits of Jamaal Charles and LeSean McCoy, it seems as though Matt Forte has managed to remain unheralded this season. In a winner take all game for the NFC North Forte put the team firmly upon his back with 3 touchdowns, 110 yards rushing and 47 yards receiving. If you had Forte going this week, and you should have, you must have been very pleased even though his real life team came up shockingly short.

RB: Lagarrette Blount, 30pts

So if you have a league in which return yardage count, and for whatever reason you started Blount (hopefully at a flex) you were in luck as in addition to a bruising 189 yards resulting in 2 touchdowns, he showed great speed for a man his size returning two kicks for 145 yards total. Blount heads into next year as a sneaky late round flier with the ever changing nature of the Patriot backfield.

WR: Cordarrelle Patterson, 20pts

So it seems like C.P turned into what we all thought Tavon Austin would be, the Vikings have been finding different ways to get Patterson the ball to the tune of two touchdowns, 85 combined yards not counting his kick off and punt returns, Patterson looks to be the ultimate in sneaky flex plays next year.

WR: Jernel Jernigan, 26pts

So Eli Manning went into a game with his top three wideouts impeded due to injury, that should have been a problem right? Not with double J on the outside. JJ ended a strong late season run with 147 all-purpose yards, and two touchdowns.

TE: Jimmy Graham, 13pts

“But Kyle, you ALWAYS put Jimmy Graham here!” So what? The reigning Tight End Champion of the world and my close personal buddy (half of that is true) has absolutely carried fantasy teams far and wide with his #1 receiver like production. 5 receptions, 71 yards and of course, another dunk over the goalpost. Chances are Jimmy Graham owners found themselves pleased with his title game production this week.

D/ST: Panthers, 17pts

One of the best units in real life, this fantasy unit came through big time for their owners against a more-potent-than-you-think Falcons unit. 17 pts in week 17 isn’t anything to sneeze at.

K: Stephen Gostkowski, 15pts

In a low scoring week for a lot of star players its comforting to have a kicker who can pick up the slack. 4 for 4 field goals and a pair of extra points would do just nicely.
