David O. Russell’s American Hustle is looking to be a mega bona fide hit. Already much lauded, it’s scoring 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts red hot performances by two of the sexiest actresses working today, Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams, and powerful, poignant performances by the men; Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner. Robert DeNiro and Louis C.K. also manage to steal every scene they are in, but really folks, is that a surprise?

The film about the intricate art of the con game had its official Hollywood premiere Dec. 2 at the Directors Guild. The after party, also at the DGA, had a way groovy vibe helped by the late ’70s/early-eighties pop music blasting. The VIP screening was met with rapturous applause and the party after was showbiz schmoozing at its best. Director/Writer David O. Russell was joined by two of the movie’s stars, Adams and Renner, plus a host of other celebrities. Tom Arnold literally went right up to Russell after the film ended and in loud booming voice that only quirky Arnold can pull off, exclaimed to him that, ’man, this is a f*ckin’ great movie.’ Russell, always up for the banter, laughed gratefully and loudly. That prompted actor Sons of Anarchy’s Ron Perlman to join in the praise. Russell and Arnold let Perlman know their mutual dismay of his S.O.A. character’s recent violent demise. Perlman told them that, “It was a great run, I had a blast playing him.” And he was gracious throughout the event to the seemingly never ending stream of fans of the show, including agents, executives and the rest of the Hollywood folk.

Adams was being her usual lovely self to the appreciative partygoers. When Russell brought his friend, the legendary talented actress Brenda Vaccaro to her, he asked Adams if she knew who she was. She replied, “David please, she’s one of my acting heroes. Of course I know!” Renner also then made sure to show Ms. Vaccaro the love. All the while, the Hustle gang was accepting kudos from the crowd. One of the film’s producers, Megan Ellison, daughter of billionaire Larry Ellison, also was receiving congratulations. Looks like Hustle, is a true winner here, and it could very well be the film to beat this coming awards season.
