A public spat continued to rage last night over actor Shai LeBeouf’s recent revelation that he was raped by woman at an art show.
The 28-year-old actor – who is currently starring in box office hit Fury – made headlines last week when he told an interviewer that he was sexually assaulted during a bizarre performance at the Cohen gallery in Los Angeles.
LeBeouf was then criticised by former Tonight host Piers Morgan, who reckons the star’s account lacked credibility. Yesterday the actor’s claim was backed by two of his art world pals, sparking a new war of words with Morgan
The actor, whose art performance apparently involved him sitting in silence with a paper bag over his head, told Dazed Digital: “One woman who came with her boyfriend, who was outside the door when this happened, whipped my legs for 10 minutes and then stripped my clothing and proceeded to rape me.
“There were hundreds of people in line when she walked out with disheveled hair and smudged lipstick.”
During the exhibition (which was called #IAMSORRY ), the star had invited the public to visit him one-on-one in a small room where he was wearing the paper bag with text on which read: ‘I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE”.
Many have responded with disbelief, most notably Morgan who called the actor a “silly little man” after labelling his claim ”pathetic”.
In a new twist, the artists who collaborated with LeBeouf on the project have come out and stated that the rape DID take place.
The two artists, Luke Turner and Nastja Säde Rönkkö, both tweeted: “Nowhere did we state that people could do whatever they wanted to Shia during #IAMSORRY. As soon as we were aware of the incident starting to occur, we put a stop to it and ensured that the woman left.”
But Morgan remains unrepentant. In an article published on the Mail Online overnight he hits back by demanding to know why Turner let the rapist walk away if he knew what had happened.
So what’s the truth? Read LeBeouf’s original interview at Dazed Digital and decide for yourself.
