rosa parks, bus, racism over says gop, gop twitter

On Dec. 1, the social media geniuses running the GOP’s Twitter account attempted to prove they were nice guys with a strong grasp of American history by mentioning Rosa Parks‘ valiant effort to end racial segregation through her refusal to give up her seat to a white passenger on a Montgomery, Alabama bus.

However, being the smooth operators they are, they missed the mark by a mile, opting instead to post a Tweet that said far more about their lack of awareness about the world than it did about the civil rights icon. Rather than marking Dec. 1,  the 58th anniversary of her act of civil disobedience, by thanking Parks for her contributions to the Civil Rights Movement, these intelligent young professionals thanked her for nipping racism in the bud, once and for all.

“Today we remember Rosa Parks’ bold stand and her role in ending racism,” they bravely wrote yesterday.

Among the more meaningful emblems of a post-racial America include New York City’s Stop and Frisk program, which stopped 85 percent black and Latino suspects in 2013, an unending stream of charming tweets about Barack Obama‘s presidency as a mixed-race man standing in contrast to the White House’s historical whiteness, and, of course, the War on Terror .

Following an outcry from people who aren’t under the impression that we’ve moved past race into a colorblind utopia in which we are all free to be you and me, the GOP clarified their statement, adding, “Previous tweet should have read ‘Today we remember Rosa Parks’ bold stand and her role in fighting to end racism.'”

Despite their fauxpology, addding insult to idiocy, they left their previous tweet up. #Sorrynotsorry, much?
