Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the renowned actor and former WWE wrestler, disclosed in a recent interview on Trevor Noah’s podcast that various political parties reached out to him in late 2022. This outreach came in the wake of a revealing poll indicating that 46% of Americans would support his potential presidential campaign.
During the podcast, Johnson shared, “At the end of the year in 2022, I got a visit from the parties asking me if I was going to run, and if I could run.” He expressed his surprise at the situation, describing it as “a big deal” that “came out of the blue.” The parties referred to the influential poll of 30,000 American adults conducted a year earlier, emphasizing their belief that he could be a strong contender.
Reflecting on the unexpected turn of events, Johnson admitted, “It was all very surreal because that’s never been my goal. My goal has never been to be in politics. As a matter of fact, there’s a lot about politics that I hate.” Despite describing himself as a “centrist” and “political independent,” Johnson had previously endorsed President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign and discussed the prospect of a presidential run in a 2016 GQ interview.
In response to the 2021 poll, Johnson humorously addressed the uniqueness he would bring to the political arena, stating on Instagram, “I don’t think our Founding Fathers EVER envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pick up truck driving, fanny pack wearing guy joining their club — but if it ever happens it’d be my honour to serve you, the people.”
However, there seems to have been a change of heart. Last year, Johnson appeared on CBS Mornings, firmly stating that a presidential run was “off the table.” He cited his three daughters, aged 22, seven, and five, as a significant factor influencing his decision.
While the idea of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson entering politics may have stirred excitement, it appears, for now, that his focus remains on his career and family.
