South African icon and former president Nelson Mandela died Thursday in his home at the age of 95. According to NBC News, a state funeral will be held for the politician and activist, who served as a beacon of hope for so many in Africa and across the globe.

As we mourn his death, numerous supporters of the Nobel Peace Prize winner tweeted their condolences and memories of him across social media. We compiled some of the best sent in his memory.
